Baby Update – Jasper At 9 Months Old

Hello! I haven’t written a baby update post since Jasper was 5 months old, which you can read here, so I thought it was about time I wrote another. He has grown up so much in the last couple of months so I really wanted to document what he was like now. I’m sure I probably said this in the last post but Jasper has got the cheekiest personality and he makes me laugh all the time now by being silly. He is definitely becoming more independent now that he can move around more easily and he really knows his own mind and what he wants. Jasper is 9 and a half months as I am writing this (which is slightly later than I was hoping for because I have been a bit poorly, on the mend now though!).

As I said before, Jasper has a very cheeky and determined personality. He is quite a content baby and although he knows what he wants he can be quite happy occupying himself with the simplest of things. He absolutely loves rolling a mini yoga ball (I bought this to practise baby yoga with him, but this hasn’t really happened!) around the front room and crawling after it. This is probably what he spends most of his time doing, the ball always ends up in the oddest places, and I also love rolling the ball around for him. The other thing he loves to do at the moment is read books, he really enjoys getting them all out and either being read to or turning the pages himself. He still really likes having a bath and now that he can sit he likes to play with toys in there too, like little toy boats and buckets that he can tip water out of.

Now that Jasper is 9 months old, I am well underway with trying to wean him. I like to offer him 3 meals a day, sometimes snacks, and a cup of water with each meal. He generally likes his food but he can sometimes be fussy by only wanting his finger foods or just spoon foods. His favourite food is yoghurt (he has the Koko dairy free kind) and he also really loves mushrooms, houmous and pasta. When Jasper is in his high chair he will sometimes drop food or spoons over the side and it doesn’t matter which side it drops over, he will always look to see where its landed over the left side, it’s the cutest thing!

Since Jasper’s 5 month post, his sleep hasn’t really improved much. He usually wakes up between 2 and 4 times a night, it has been as many wake ups as every 1.5 hours though. I think only once in the last couple of months has he only woken up just once in the night. At the moment, he usually naps about 2 and 3 times a day for between half an hour to 1.5 hours.

Jasper is still yet to get his first tooth, despite teething for what feels like months. Although I don’t mind this too much because I am still breastfeeding him! Jasper recognises a lot of words now like his name and no and if we ask him where certain toys are (like his ball) he can find them. He hasn’t yet said his first word but he is starting to make lots of different noises now. I have also been going to Tiny Talk classes with him since Christmas and he did his first sign of ‘milk’ when he was 8 months old and I find it so cool that he can now let me know when he wants milk.

Over the last few months Jasper has also had a couple of problems with his eyes and ears which are still ongoing.

These are some of the milestones Jasper has achieved over the last few months:

• Sitting up independently – 6.5 months
• Clapping his hands – 7.5 months
• Crawling – 8.5 months.
