Babies First Trip To The Dentist

On Tuesday, we took Jasper to the dentist for the first time. In the UK, it is recommended that babies first go to the dentist when their first tooth appears, the main reasons for this are so they get familiar with the idea of going to the dentist and so the dentist can give parents advise about looking after their children’s teeth. Jasper hasn’t actually got a tooth yet so we were a little early in taking him but as we were due check ups ourselves we thought the dentist might as well have a peek at his gums too.

I am always a little nervous about going to the dentist and since I last went there is now a new dentist at the surgery. He was really nice though and Jasper didn’t seem to bothered by him at all. In fact, Jasper seemed thrilled to be able to have a munch on the dentists finger. Jasper’s check up involved him sitting on my knee whilst the dentist felt round his gums with his finger.  The check up went well and the dentist predicted that Jasper would likely have his first tooth within the next month. Going forward we will take Jasper to have his teeth checked every 6 months as recommended.

I would love to know how any of you got on taking your little ones to the dentist for the first time.

Thanks for reading, Jen x
