Hi Everyone, today I thought I would share some of the ways we have kept Baby Jasper entertained for the first 6 months of his life. These are the things he enjoyed the most so I thought they would be useful to share. I know when you are tired it can be hard to find new things to do with your baby so I thought this might provide some inspiration too!

When I started to write this post I realised that 6 months is quite a long time for a new baby with so many changes so I have split it in to two halves; from 0 to 3 months then 3 to 6 months. For the first 3 months of their lives babies don’t really need entertaining as such because they are taking in and learning everything. Its much more about bonding with your baby at this stage for example simply talking to them whilst you are changing them or keeping them close to you possibly in a baby carrier.
Newborns aren’t really up for very long after you have fed them, changed them and done the other things they need. A typical routine at this age might be nap, feed, wind, change, activity and back to sleep all within an hour and a half (it can be quite full on!). Some good activities might be to show your baby contrasting images, read them a book or give them a bath. Jasper’s favourite toys from 0 to 3 months old, as shown in the picture above, were the black and white book and the dino tails book.
From 3 months old babies start to become more aware and interested in what you are doing. They are awake for longer periods of activity as well so more variety of entertainment is needed. At this age Jasper really liked when we acted silly, pulled funny faces or made different noises like blowing raspberries at him. He also really liked peekaboo games and other anticipation games. One thing to be aware of with these types of games is that babies can get scared of sudden changes or noises. Some of Jasper’s favourite toys between 3 and 6 months old were this hungry caterpillar toy and this lamaze firefly.
Throughout all of the first six months babies love to be sung to, it doesn’t matter what you sing (or if its any good!) they will just like the tune and the sound of your voice. It is also good to do tummy time with your baby, you can start with just a few minutes on their tummy on your chest and work up to longer periods maybe on a play mat.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about some of the things Jasper liked to do between 0 and 6 months old and that its given you some inspiration of things to do with your babies. I would love to know what your babies liked at this age and now that Jasper is 7 months old I would like to know how you’ve entertained you older babies.
Thanks for reading, Jen x
